In my opinion, many organizations underestimate the need to react quickly during periods of change when any conflicts arise, as conflict needs to be resolved on the spot because conflict can never be locked in a knot and eventually like gunpowder it will tend to erupt.
It is important for organizations to embrace the notion that along the path of change there will certainly arise some form of resistance that will invariably lead to some sort of conflict.
It is imperative that any conflicts triggered by resistance during periods of change are dealt with expeditiously and overtly in order to diminish the risk of any explosions and collateral damage.
That is, if an organization attempts to bury conflict under the rug, it will never disappear but rather it will tend to linger until it starts to simmer and eventually like gunpowder it will tend to ignite.
Therefore, it is critical to resolve conflict upfront when it is manageable, straightforward, clear and concise.
Otherwise, there tends to be a lethal build-up of conflict over time leading to an overflow like lava from a volcano that ultimately causes irreparable collateral damage.
In summary, I refer to “Change Management Gangnam THE ROCK Style” as the belief that conflict needs to be resolved on the spot because conflict can never be locked in a knot.
