In my opinion, many organizations fail to address the notion that “over analysis can lead to paralysis” during periods of change in the sense that debating any proposal can result in a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure in the sense that if you look for a reason to fail, you will ultimately find one.
It is important for organizations to insure that over analysis does not lead to paralysis during periods of change in the sense that excessive time is spent debating every proposal to the point that management is not able to decide on anything on a timely basis.
It is important for everyone to note that during periods of change, unless one is God, perfection does not exist. Therefore, the focus should be on making reasonable decisions on a timely basis in all material respects as opposed to analyzing everything to death to the point that every idea looks terrible and nothing ever moves forward.
Organizations need to be aware that over analyzing any proposed alternative can result in a self-fulfilling prophecy of failure in the sense that if you look for a reason to fail, you will ultimately find one.
In simple English, during periods of change there is no need to be grossly pessimistic but rather there is a need to be pragmatically realistic while at the same time, being overly optimistic can also be dangerous, as we all know that “pigs will never fly”.
